For a person to act as a Godparent for Baptism, he or she must be at least sixteen years old, must have already received all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation), and must be living in a way that demonstrates that one's faith is strong enough to be able to fulfill the responsibilities involved with being a Godparent. A Godparent who is married must be married in accord with the laws of the Catholic Church. ~

The pastor of the designated Godparent is normally responsible for determining that he or she understands the Godparent’s role and is qualified to assume it. The pastor, or his designate, is to provide a letter of eligibility for the designated Godparent when the Sacrament is to be celebrated in Holy Angels Church.
Holy Angels Church must receive the certification of the designated Godparent(s) before the baptism is scheduled.

There is to be only one male Catholic sponsor or one female Catholic sponsor or one of each. A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community man participate as a witness with either a Catholic Godfather or Catholic Godmother.
